Question Help Needed:AGV Miglia modular or the HJC IS-Max ?

I need a little advice on modular helmets. I have been shopping around for several months now, and have narrowed the field down to either the AGV Miglia modular or the HJC IS-Max. The AGV (at least the Harley Davidson model) fits and feels great. The HJC is not bad either, and I’m really drawn to the internal visor, but for comfort alone, I’m leaning towards the AGV.

Anyone had experience (good, bad, or ugly) with either / both of these? I ride year round, (commute) in Louisiana, so I’m concerned with both leakage and ventilation as well.

Also, what's the difference between the IS-Max and the Symax II?

I think the difference is $100. That and one has a plastic shell and the other has a fiberglass one

I was pretty happy with my Symax, but after the accident I see that webBikeWorld prefers the IS-Max to the Symax II, so I'm probably going to go that way for a replacement. Cheaper and better is a hard combo to beat.

I took a gamble and bid on the AGV on Ebay for 125 bucks. There's noplace near me that carries them, but Harley sells ne with their name on it for $275.00 !! If the plain jane version fits te same, I think I'll be happy.

I WOULD have liked the visor though...

I would like a visor too. I already have the AGV. Great helmet and a great price. I think you made a good choice.

my friend did not like his HJC. the paint chips easily. his new 'elbowz' replica already has rock chips all over.

I've had a Miglia for a year and a half, and it's pretty nice for the price. I seem to be hard on visor (they scratch easily), and it may be a little loud. My chin just barely clears the front, and Jay Leno I am not.

Fellow Miglia User here,

Great helmet, comfy and built well. I like that the AVG had metal locking chin mechanism. I read a thread on a ninja forum that a member posted about his spill in a Miglia. The member had no issue with the helmet coming apart.

Would I buy again? yes

I had a Miglia. It was a very good helmet. Not the quietest but it's one of the cheapest modulars out there. It might still be THE lightest modular out there. And because it is physically smaller front to back it seals better for winter riding. But, if you have a big chin it may touch the chin bar. Thats the only reason I got rid of it.

i had a 45mph get off while wearing a miglia in may of this year. helmet did great, did what it was supposed to do.. and i bought another one..

the visors scratch easily and chin bar is a bit close.. the lightweight, price, and fit is a no brainer for me..
