I had heard it was just a deduction from the dealer in San Diego.

A quick search turned up this: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/...204519,00.html

Since they are calling it a deduction and not a refund, or anything else, then I'm assuming it's just like any other, and you get whatever your tax rate is off that amount. Certainly better than not getting anything.

Prices may have gone up but I paid $17,100 for my '07 GSA with all options except the TPM and ASC in December of '07. Look around. Call Max bmw and check cycletrader and Ebay. Winter is almost here and bikes on the floor aren't going to be flying out the door.

Just picked up my 2009 GS Thursday.

Invoice: $17,990 (Heated Grips,Computer,ABS,Bag Mounts,ESA,Hand Protection)

Paid: $15,090 (That's $2900 off MSRP)

California Tax & Lic: $1650

OTD: $16740

They were selling fully loaded GSA's for $17,491 (Invoice is $20,490). They had a few GSA's in both red and gray. I saw one more Gray GS, A factory lowered Blue GS, and one of the fugly orange ones. Plus I find out I get a $400 check back from BMW due to their LE program. Just my story.

It's not just about the money or the difference in power. I feel that the major change is the valve adjustment interval. The old style the valves were easy to adjust. But one had to do it every 6000 miles.
The new bike the valves are easy to check but are harder to adjust. Currently I am hearing check every 12000 miles. But I bet that it will be 40 or 50K before one really has to adjust them. That is after the break in period adjustment. Almost every shim and bucket valve out there goes a long time before they need adjusting.

I do my own maintenance. I've always thought that valve adjusting every 6K was a bit much.

So for me its buy used or get the 2010.

Spag, I stand corrected on the sales tax. Not sure why they made such a big deal out of it-looks the same as in past years/unless there is a twist I'm not seeing. I did get $2800 off msrp on the '09 12GSSE.

Buy my almost new 2009 GS Special Edition....1,300 miles unless I continue to ride it this weekend. Flawless and includes some nifty GSA parts such as the black spoke wheels. 600 mi service completed as well.
