Really shoulder plant wearing a koerta

So, I'm at the local flat track taking part in open practice.
I lose the front and i go down. I'm wearing my Koerta.
I hit my left shoulder, hard I feel it *pop*

I go through the whole deal the doc looks at my x-rays and says
"wow, that must've been some kind of crash. That was a heck of a dislocation.
I'm surprised that nothings broken."

The koerta did it's job, mostly. I wish it would have been able to keep my shoulder in place. but at least i dont have a busted collarbone.

My shoulder was popped ou and protruding about 2.5 inches lower then where it should be.

That was surprising how painful it was, and how much less painful it is now.

Your going to wish it had been a collar bone fracture. I thought I was lucky a couple years ago when I messed mine up but now that its been a couple years I would have traded two broken arms to keep my shoulder from ever having dislocated.

Really, I hate it that much. Ive dislocated it 11 times now and I do the therapy still along with lots of exercise and man that thing will only get so much better. I have slowly lost range of motion and now that its been a while since I did it again its slowly comming back but it will never be the same again.

Good luck with your therapy and do EVERYTHING they say.

In 08 I lost the front end of my KTM 300XC under braking and suffered breakage of the ball on the left humerus, while also wearing a Koerta suit. These pressure suits and other offroad riding gear need more padding. I'd previously seen photos of savy experienced riders adopting football / ice hockey padding, over top of existing mc protective gear. Seems like not a bad idea...

Shattered (broke off and in 4~5 pieces) my right humeral head (ball) in '04 is a stupid low side of my DRZ. Nothing would have saved me except some kind of bionic exo-skeleton - it was my elbow which planted in the dirt, sending the shock up the humerus to the shoulder joint. Had to have a "hemiarthoplasty" (replaced the ball with a stainless steel implant). Never healed properly. I did all of the torturous therapy for months. Even tried again when my range of motion still sucked. I'd say I have less than 50% use of the arm. I'm right handed too.

I still ride. It hurts. A lot. Had to give up road race track and modify bikes and my riding style.

996DL, were they able to put yours back together? Mine was too far gone. Good luck to you and squish

Sorry to hear of the serious nature of your fall tbirdsp. Mine only had two major pieces seperate from the ball and while I was admitted on the sunday of the fall, surgery was delayed until the following wednesday, in order to book an orthopedic surgeon who specialized in elbows and shoulders. He was one of only two surgeons out of a dozen, that was an expert in that field. He said after the surgery, that ten years ago he would have replaced the shoulder joint assembly, but thank goodness it was screwed back together !

PS: The first generation RM250/370 series are one of my favourite dirt bikes of all time !
When I was young and living in Vancouver BC, I was able to watch Roger Decoster a couple of
times in Washington State, riding the works versions, WOW !!!
