[quote]I just gotta say I can see very little benefit that has been gained from the last 30 years of adventure bike development. I would prefer the marketing & accounting departments were moved far away from the design guys and let engineers and race teams take up the vacated space.

Anyone that doubts that statment should find a decent Cagiva Elephant - I have ridden most of the equivalent bikes sold today and I dont think you can buy a bike today as good as the Old Elephant , the combination of the smooth and torquey belt drive Duke motor and Ohlins suspension in a bike a sensible hieght and weight taakes a lot of beating.

i'd rather have more torques than powers, and i'd rather have less weight than more.

So would I on both counts but I'm prepared to endure obsene amounts of power when the torques go round faster and faster if the torques are present in agricultural quantities from idle.

1200GS is a bit like that. If BMW get the right colour lipstick in 2010 then I'm sure they'll sell a million more. Possibly they'll make enough money to employ some Italian engineers to upgrade the latte machine in the marketing department.

there's the rub - the GS is a fat lardy pig that has to contain the power and torque available to it, over 75hp you'll have to be spinning over 5 1/2 k revs - mostly only used 2% of the time off road - so 98% of the time you're lugging around dead weight, burning fuel.

BMW colours for this year are gay orange and boring white - another reason to go yamaha.

Personally i think 700 or 750 watercooled twin is the best compromise for weights, powers and torques

PS i've got an 1100GS as well

PPS 67% of all statistics are made up :)
