Cut the little stinger pipes out of the stock mufflers on your GC and you will be happy with them , A little more sound but not near as loud as the Ferracci cans and a lot cheaper . The back of the cans are stainless so use a drill and a die grinder to open them up . Cut all the metal out to the outer large spout then cut the stinger inside the can as far as you can reach . I torched mine . And +1 on the chip , it turns on the midrange . Where else can a bike look the same for ten years and still be one of the best looking bikes on the road . SEYA

Finally got my GC home.
Moved to Denver last September, but didn't have room to get my bike here. Rode it from KC - Omaha - Denver. It did very well.

I like the tire's on them. Never tried any offroad tire's on mine .
When i tried the Gran Canyon it was a bit to heavy for my liking. That's why i bought the little brother. (500cc) Cagiva Canyon 500 ![]() On a trip to France. Great bike. Had a blast driving the beast everywhere. Light, fast, lot's of funcruising! ![]() |

Never seen a GC I didn't like especially with knobbies. I had a black/red GC 900 once. I miss the old girl

Dear GC and Navigator owners.
I've been bitten by the bug and thinking of getting myself one of those beasties. I am looking for owners opinions what to aim for - Grand Canyon or Navigator? Intended use is mostly paved roads with occasional offroad and long distance trips 2-up on paved roads. The idea is that bike should be or made to be resistant to falls, with as little as possible servicing problems (I service all my bikes myself) and I want to mod whatever I will get to reduce it's dry weight by say 20 kg (not taking into account bashplates and crashbars that I will install). Also - does it make any sence to look for Elephant 900 ie instead? |

I don't see how you could reduce a GC or Nav 20kg (45lbs) and still have everything you need? There is really not a lot of extra fluff on these bikes, so you would end up most likely effecting the functionality and reliability of the bike. You could ditch the stock airbox in favor of pod filters, make a custom light weight exhaust to save some weight and end up with an obnoxiously loud v-twin... but it would be lighter and louder!

Yep, I already realized it - spoke to fellow rider, proud owner of GC.
I mean I wanted to remove 20 kg from bike and then add bashplate, crshbars and luggage frames, but looks like it is not really feasible. Seems that only way to reduce weight is expensive. E.g. wheels, a bit here and a bit there, throw most of bodywork off, replace tank with 25 liter acerbis from DR etc. etc. and may be it will give me 10-15 kg at horribly high costs. I am not afraid of truly customization work and no work on bike scares me - my Suzuki DR800 is a proof, but costs are constraint. So I will have to stay out of it unfortunately, despite GC is very appealing to me. And my VTR Superhawk will remain my asphalt tourer for now...Thanks for advice thou, I really appreciate replies - plan is postponed, not cancelled :) |

I've posted pics of my old GC a few times in this thread. I've been very clear that I missed my GC from the second I sold it and that I'd love the have it back....
About 2 weeks ago I'm sitting at my computer just looking at Craigslist ads all over the country and there it is! My old Canyon, that I sold here in Santa Cruz, Ca was for sale in Drake, Colorado for only $4000. I sent the guy an email explaining that I had previously owned that bike and that I wanted to buy it. Same guy still owned it, he'd moved to Co and taken the bike with him. Cool! Bought a plane ticket, flew to Colorado last Saturday night. Bought my bike back.... As we were doing the paperwork and talking about the bike we realized that I was buying it back exactly 4 years to the day after I sold it to him... Crazy stuff. He only put 4200 miles on it the entire time he owned it. Took care of it pretty well but road it off-road. I never had considered it an off road bike and kept it in showroom shape. So I've got some cleaning to do, levers to replace, and some cracked vacuum hoses to attend to but other than that it's perfect. Rode it home to California, over 1500 miles in 2 days. Left Drake Colorado at 9:00 am Sunday morning and made it home Monday night.... I'm stoked to have my old bike back!!!!!Here's a few picks of the old girl. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's what it looked like 4 years ago when I sold it to him. ![]() It's going to take some TLC to get it back to where it was... Must replace or refinish some corroded parts and hoses... Just glad to have it back and running VERY well with the exception of a minor vacuum leak. |
