There is no anti-knock sensor in the GS8 as there is in the GS12, so it won't adjust ignition timing based on fuel quality and will ping if you run crap fuel. That's why there's an optional mapping available from your dealer for low octane fuel.

I agree, one of our KLR's had to make space for the F800GS as well - I'm not missing it at all .
