Garmin Nuvi 1350 on a bike?

I am a GPS virgin. Hell, I wouldn't even look at a map unless I was screwed for a lot of my touring. Now I got a Nuvi 1350 GPS for my birthday and I would like to know if it is a good unit for touring. Is it semi water resistant or should I buy the waterproof case? Is it a decent unit to take off-roading on my quad? Should I return it and get something better suited to what I want to use it for?

Hopefully there are some GPS gurus out there that can help me out.

Cheers,
