New 9" Safari's

Got my Jesse 9" Safari's today. Bolted up quickly & with a perfect fit. Width is 35.5".

Didn't get a chance to ride with them, driving rain & 40-50 MPH gusts this afternoon in Iowa. :(

Jesse made a running change to the 9" Safari's for the 800GS. Guess the 8" was just too small on the exhaust side. As I understand it all Safari's for the 800 will be 9" now.

Wow, cool! I've been waiting for these. Looks like the lids are now at an angle like the 1200 ones. Any other changes with the new panniers (assuming you're familiar with the 8" Safaris)? What volume do they hold?

Sorry, not familiar at all. Last Jesses I had were Odyssey's on a '05 1200GS.

Not Happy Jan!

Bugger, Safaris delivered last Friday - 8". Just a bit pissed off that we were not given the option of waiting a week or two for 9" ones.

I agree with SOPH 9" would be more practical on the exhaust side.

I sent Rick an email earlier this week about replacing the exhaust side pannier with a Odessy. It was his reply that informed me of the 9" one that were going to be available and priced at 1100 bucks. Pretty pissed too.

He didnt specify and the more I thought about it the more I came to realize I wasnt going to drop that much coin (again) on a little more room.

That was the price I paid for the 8" w/bracets. Plus shipping of course.

I am kind of pissed too. I made a statement that the 8" seemed to small and the 10" seemed too big and wasn't told of the 9" option. They had to have know this just a few weeks ago and could have offered up the 9" Safari over the 10" Odyssey. Oh well... at least I don't have to fill them up.

They are probably wanting to move the stock they have in 8" before selling the 9". ??

I think I still prefer the narrow profile of the 8's. Hold on to your 8" boxes, keep them in good shape. There may be somewhat of a demand for them if they quit making them.

Is there any difference in durability between the Safari and Odyssey panniers? Or is it just the size and rounded vs. sharp corners? Are the mounts the same? Any other differences I'm not aware of?
