I've been fiddling with my 2004 950 Adv, but haven't gotten it right yet.
I can't get it to idle at the magic 1500-1800. If I turn up the idle using the idle screw, the bike will idle at 1800. But on decel the engine will stay around 3-4K rpms and won't go back down until I let off the idle screw. I don't turn it much. Maybe 1/2 turn to get this behavior.
Also, around 3k rpms, when rolling on the throttle, it hesitates. It will rev through it, and above that it's fine. If I pin it at 3K it gets worse.
air screws are at 2.25 turns out each. Stock mufflers, aftermarket air filter, no intake filter sock thing.
If this was a two-stroke, I'd know how to jet it. Four strokes, not so much. When a 4stroke hesitates, is it lean or rich?
Also, the bike doesn't want to wheelie easily. It feels lean on the needle.
I was going to dig back into it and raise the needle a notch, or a 1/2 notch if I can find a washer to go under the needle clip.
"There isn't any secret," he said. "It's all very obvious."
