texas via kentucky on a bandit
this this was a 4 day ride to the town of texas which is in queensland,
australia, i went via the very small village of kentucky, which is in
new south wales, australia. this was my first long ride on my new
bike, a 2005 suzuki bandit 1200s.
day 1 sydney to walcha via kentucky.
even horses need a rest stop
next stop was gloucester where i met the rider of this green thing
he said he also owned a harley we had a chat for a while and he
had nothing but praise for the bandit
i'm now heading to walcha on thunderbolts way, captain thunderbolt
was a famous bushranger in these parts back in the 1800s.
thunderbolts way lookout, looking west to barrington tops.
this is my stop for the night, the bustling town of walcha.
i will be turning right tomorrow, end of day one.
day 2, here i am in kentucky,an uncle and aunt of mine used to own a farm
near here back in the 1960s-70s, i came up for holidays a few times
and really liked it, big change from city life.
just after i got here 2 other bikes pulled up, the two riders and i had a
chat then went next door for a coffee in the cafe/ general store/ petrol
station/ licquor store/ post office, there's only one shop here.
this was my brush with fame, the guy who owns the pig is also the
aussie distributor for urals, i didn't ask why he wasnt riding one
they were heading south to tamworth and im going norrth next stop,
a couple of hours later im in tingha, an old mining town.
this old shop is now a museum, its only 2 $ entry so why not go in
and have a look around
next stop is copeton dam, about 1 hr west, typical of a lot of aussie
dams, not much water in them
next stop is inverell, this pic shows vince strang's bike shop, he is a slightly
famous aussie rider. his son, josh strang is an ok rider as well, currently
competing in gncc, in the u.s.a
next pic is inverell from the local look out, then i'm off to the inverell
next pic a 1954 morris minor, my first car way back in the late 60s
i'd love to have one of these jeeps
from the car museum i went to a motel for the night, and so ends day 2.
day 3 next
at last a sign, i'm on the right road
coming up, some pics of the main street , texas, queensland
well that's it for texas, back over the border into new south wales.
i stopped at bonshaw to get this pic, the owner was 84 yo and had
recently restored ths ajs and made the side car himself, he was heading
to brisbane queensland for a bike show, amazing old guy
thats the end of day 3, day 4 next, 1st pic the golden guitar
in tamworth, country music capital of australia
next stop werris creek, a major rail junction
the weather is getting lousy, but im getting close to home, only a few
hundred kms to go. next pics the old road warriors cafe near gosford
this guy was on an mv augusta, see that blue bottle behind his
left leg, about 2 litres of nitrous
thats all the pics ive got its only about 1hr to home on the freeway
had a great 4 day ride weather was ok the bandit was superb and
i didnt get busted for speeding see ya next time.
