Solo ride

Being almost 62, I finally deceided it was time for a nice long ride. I had wanted to take a ride like this since I was 20 and there always seemed to be something more important. June 26 was D-Day. I started from my home in eastern Ohio and proceeded west thru Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota. Then back through Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and back home to Ohio. The trip covered 4,300 miles in ten days and I used 100 gallons of gas. I was riding my 2008 Kawasaki Concours and the weather was perfect for the whole trip except for some thunderstorm in a 75 mile section on the return trip through Iowa. The trip included side trips to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Ltiile Big Horn, Devils Tower, The Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and the Badlands. I was also able to visit lots of friends along the way. Every evening when I stayed at the motels, I met lots of guys riding on trips just like me. It was really nice to hear some of their stories about their trips. It was so much fun I can't wait for the next trip.

It sounds like you had a great ride. I've been through those areas that you mention and they are certainly scenic especially Montana and Wyoming, the black hills, mt. rushmore area, and the badlands.

Darn that was a short ride report for seeing so much and covering so many miles but it sure sounds like you enjoyed yourself.

What was the high point of the ride? What was the low point?

I've been trying to attach some pictures but my files are rejected for being too big. I'll keep trying.
The high point of the trip was meeting other people and being able to see things where I hadn't been before. Also, was actually fun having the freedom of being by myself. The low point was that the whole thing was over waaay too fast. It would be great to take a month long trip but it's not in my near future. I'll have to settle with a few shorter trips.

Great pics. Looks like a really cool ride. Hopefully one day I'll head over that way.

Great pics

I lived in Wyoming for 20 years and saw some truly breathtaking county, many of which were in wilderness areas. Unfortunately, I did not own a scooter in those days but have an 88 GL1500 now and am really putting some miles on her here in Ohio. LadyBug, could you also send me the instructions on how to attach photos? Thanks

I saw those "Beware Rattlesnakes!" signs too when I was there on the 4th of July.
