Question Towing a trailer with a KLR650/F650GS?

Hello guys, I am new to this forum.

I'm planning to save up for a dual-sport, but I can't figure out whether I should go for a KLR 650 single, a BMW F650GS or a BMW F800GS V-Twin.

I've test ridden a KLR once, and it felt like it had plenty of grunt behind it, especially after hopping off my 150CC Sachs Express. But how will the KLR fair with riding 2-up and/or towing a 60kg TARE trailer (for shopping/items transport)? What about the F650GS single? I'm pretty certain that the F800GS will have no trouble with the 70ish Nm of torque, more than double the KLR650. The problem is that it would take longer or take larger chunks of money to save to buy an F800GS than it would to get a new KLR650.

How badly would it affect the fuel economy?

Fire-plug is the go-to guy for info on trailering with a KLR. Saw him pull into a KLR rally last year with his KLR/trailer combo, he had something like 80K on the bike's odo at the time...

I ran into him a few years ago. He has a cool set up for certain.

The KLR has more torque down low for pulling a trailer easier. The 800 of course would cruise the open roads better with the extra weight and power.

I pulled it up to 65 MPH for 200 miles with a load. I did replace the tires with kevlar BMX tires and heavy duty Slime tube.
Chucklr04 towed his from Louisiana to the ADVrider get together on the Blue Ridge with his CT70.

2 up plus a 130lb empty trailer? If that's a common minimum load, I'd consider another bike.

No personal experience. Fuel economy will likely be poor, but I'd be worried about burning up the clutch at every stoplight. Once rolling, it'll probably be ok, yet slow.

Thanks for the input, I think I might go for the F800GS. Fuel economy won't suffer as much and I've heard that you're not going to have much fun 2-up on a KLR.
Then again, I could just forget the trailer, put panniers on instead, and forget 2-uping, and get a KLR. But... nah
