Airhead Mainseal Tool in the Seattle Area?
Howdy everyone,
I am in the process of tearing down and rebuilding an '85 R80 engine in order to transplant it into a Dnepr. I'm planning on replacing the main seal, while I am in there, and I was wondering if any of y'all in the Seattle area might have the special BMW main seal driver tool that I could borrow? If you do I certainly would appreciate it. Thanks, Matt Pearsall '94 KLR 650 88' Dnepr MT-16 (under construction) |

I don't have the tool, but I just tapped mine in with a drift, slowly and carefully. Worked fine and hasn't leaked a drop.

or just make a seal installer. Take a piece of wood or steel and drill 5 holes in the middle of it to line up with the ones in the crank. I used a metal cover for an electrical box.

Use the flywheel bolt washer - the big washer with five holes in it that goes between the bolts and the flywheel as a template when drilling your holes. I built my own tool out of 1/2" Birch plywood. Works great.
