Labor Day Off Pavement Ride

Tossin' up a heads up that I plan to ride this coming Monday. I'll be bringing my DR back to PDX from out in the Gorge where it has spent the summer. Post up or send a PM if you'd like to ride, and we can figure out a plan from there. I'm thinking of Scappoose West ... but am open to other options. Stay tuned.

Thanks. Its all good. Adjusted valves on Tuesday with Ghostrunner-Mick.

Put on new tires & brakes @ Radiaoman's last night.... I already have a new turnsignal housing (I go through them often ) to replace the broken one.

So the DR is scuffed all to hell but NOT broken. WOO HOO!!!

Outpost this weekend. Wet-Fest next weekend.... Then "I'm going to Montana to be a dental floss Tycoon" Well for a few days anyway.

Labour Day Ride - Beacon Rock

matloik and I had a great full day ride out north of Beacon Rock. There were a few dead end trails and lots of practice on rocks, logs and river crossings.
We covered about 80 miles of dirt, 230 miles in total for me. I need to go back again for more.
Here is a slide show of the day. (HD available)

Thanks for a most excellent day of riding, Biped! Yeah, we covered a lot of ground and found some good stuff for sure, covering the full range of DS riding -- fast gravel, rocky ups and downs, powerline roads, two-track, logs, creek crossings, ... lots of practice ascending and descending and choosing a fast line through rock-strewn forest "roads". Good times.

That looks like a great ride!

I just sold my boat today and giving some serious thought to picking up a 640 Adventure but I'm wondering how unfriendly it would be on the average PDX Off-Pavement Ride?
I have a 2000 FE 501 Husaberg right now but I think I'm going to sell it also. I'm getting a little old and tired for hard single track trails and wrestling it off of me. I don't want to turn into a total pussy and ride pavement all day either so I guess I'm asking would I just end up wrestling an even heavier bike off of me on your Off-Pavement rides?

Thanks

albacore, welcome to the ADV group, the rides usually get tailored to the capability of the participants and are very informal. I ride a 340 pound 690 Enduro, and with moderate skills I do OK, others ride 250 to 990 size bikes and bigger. You will always have help picking your bike up, after mandatory pictures though. The toughest part is riding too and home from the rides.

For the record, not once did Biped need his bike picked up, with help or otherwise. And that provides him ample stores of energy to assist in said picking up of others' bikes. Hypothetically.

That's cool how the every trail works. Did you use a mobile phone or will it also work off of gps tracks?

I know, I should just look over the site but I'm feeling lazy so I figured I would just ask :-)

Thanks,

Jon...

Albacore meet at Plan B tomorrow night around 5 and we will go over the rules of pictures, crashes, and mandatory beer buying.

I uploaded an edited GPX file downloaded from my Garmin 60Csx. I ensure my camera time is set correctly per the GPS time so the images are tagged to the corresponding GPX time stamps. I have also used the iPhone app for shorter trails/walks (battery life) and uploaded from the trail including pics.
