What this ignition curve switch bullshoot...
Road the new 990 tonight and used my 3/4 helmet. I heard some pinging I never heard in the past 600 miles with my full face on. First thing I think of is gas (which I've only used 93 octane, nothing less). Then I go thumbing thru the manual and find this shit!
In the condition at delivery, the LC8 engine requires unleaded fuel with at
least RON 95 (USA = Premium RON 91).
If using lower octane fuel, it is easy to change over to the pre-programmed
ignition curve for 80 - 94 octane (RON) (see activating the ignition curve for
– USE UNLEADED FUEL WITH AT LEAST RON 95 (USA = PREMIUM RON 91). IF
USING LOWER OCTANE FUEL, THE IGNITION CURVE MUST BE CHANGED, OTHERWISE ENGINE DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.
– THIS MOTORCYCLE IS EQUIPPED WITH 2 CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. LEADED FUEL WILL DESTROY THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. PLEASE USE UNLEADED FUEL ONLY.
So according to KTM, USA gas of 93 maybe 94 at Sunoco is inferior? I can't even think of running low in OLD TOWN USA where the Premium (if they have it) has been sitting in the ground for a few years. What gives?
I use the local Shell, should I find another gas or does everyone have a little ping here and there? And what kinda crap is that up there
