Day Trippin'.......for about an hour

It's been over a week since my last ride and I'm having withdrawal I need to leave town in a few hours and go to work, so no riding until next weekend. Well, I do have an hour or two, so it's time for a short ride. I fire up my DR250 and take off. Everyone else on the road is probably heading for work or school...there's plenty of traffic on the road. I try to avoid the main roads as much as possible.

I don't have to ride far to find a few curves

and a few more.

What's the point in riding if you can't lean a little bit

My destination for today:

I have always enjoyed coming Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Park. Usually I come here to run or hike. Today I'll ride to the top of the mountain. The parking lot at the bottom is completely full. Doesn't anyone around here have to work

So I head up the scenic winding road that goes to the top.

There are joggers and hikers all over the road, including women pushing strollers.

I think I'll have to behave myself and obey the speed limit today.

I park my bike at the parking lot near the top of the mountain and head off to take a few pics.

The view of Atlanta. Can't see much through the haze.

I hike up towards the top of the mountain. There's a great hiking trail that goes from one end of the park to the other. Most of it is unpaved. This section is paved for a short stretch.

There are several cannons up here. Dragging these up the mountain was a lot more work than I just did coming up here.

A little further up is a grreat view overlooking the city of Kennesaw and part of Marietta.

Hiking back down the trail.

I doubt that this fence was originally here. Wouldn't have stopped those Yankees anyway

Time for a self portait with one of the cannons.

Time to start heading back. Although the parking lot at the bottom was completely full, this one at the top is almost empty.

I ride back down the mountain, taking a couple of pics on the way.

It's a nice road, but I keep it slow due to all the people on the road today.

Not only are people all over the road, they are completely oblivious to me riding down the road. they remind me of the cattle out west, they don't move over at all.

So that there is some semblance of adventure in this ride, I make a slight detour to ride the only non-paved road I know in this area.

The gravel only lasts about a quarter of a mile so I ride to the end and then turn around.

Then it's time to get back on the pavement and head towards home. The paved road I'm on has some real expensive houses on it. Then there's this:

I wonder what the rich people who live near here think of it.

I think it's cool. Reminds me of trips out into the countryside when I was young. When many barns had advertising on them. Things like; "Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco" or oil companies like this one.

Ten minutes later and I'm back home. Total mileage: around 20 miles. Not the most exciting ride I have ever done but hopefully it will hold back those feelings of withdrawel until I have a chance to go for another ride in the N. Georgia Mountains. Maybe next weekend
