Flooding in SE MN, Local pics

By ADV standards, this is very light duty riding, but given the bike I was on, it was an adventure.

Like many towns in southern MN, mine has been swamped by record rains and flooding over the past week.
Today I hopped on the CB550 and headed out and about to see what I could see, and what barriers I could get around.

This first one is an aerial shot I found on the city's website (northfield.org) and the rest I took.
Keep in mind, the crest was two days ago and the level has already dropped by 3 feet.

This one is taken from the concrete bridge seen in the aerial shot, the red lines are the normal bank.

No kidding!

We've had a dozen small businesses devastated by this 100-year flood, and the clean up is going to take a long time, complicated by the coming cold weather.

On a happy note, the CB550 with Roadriders did very well on the waterlogged gravel and dirt roads!
Got some strange looks from some farmers, they probably don't see many street bikes in their neck of the woods!

Yikes, that's serious flooding! Any water crossings on your bike?

Just two spots a yard wide and less than six inches deep.
You never know how solid the ground is under floodwater, , and I didn't feel like walking home!

I've always been a street-biker, but ever since I got the CB I've been checking out more and more gravel and dirt roads. I'm seriously thinking of putting on some Tourance's or something when I change the tires next time.
The suspension sure isn't off-road-worthy, but with the proper tires and the low COG this bike should do just fine on the rural routes.

It's a '74 CB550 that I rescued out of a garage last fall, it'd slept since 1985!!!
(That was the last sticker on the plate. The PO said he'd ran it around the block once in 1995, but otherwise it'd sat.)

I cleaned the carbs, drained the full tank and added new gas, new plugs and a new battery and she fired right up! Over winter I replaced the exhaust and everything rubber and that's where I'm at.

Got it as a learner for my wife, but she's not too interested, so it's my backup bike now. (Oh darn, right! )

I don't want my Bonneville to get all rock-dinged up, so this bike is perfect for the backroads.
