Airhead (1986 R80) oil filter and capacity

Alejo is at the auto parts store and asked me to ask if there is a generic oil filter that crosses to the stock BMW part, and also, what is the capacity of the oil for a change incl fil on a 86 R80?

thanks!

Kevin

I just told him I thought it was 2500cc which my R100RS is with filter, and that there wasn't a generic as far as I know.

I just filled mine until it wouldn't hold anymore. Smoked a little but eventually found its own level.

Often if you fill to the high mark on the dipstick, your engine will pass a lot of oil through the breather back through the engine until it gets about midway between the marks at which point oil consumption should slow considerably or cease. I always fill to the mid mark and call it good. Remember that the measurement is taken with the dipstick just dipped in, not threaded in.
