October Ride Pics

Finally figured out Smugbug. Here's some pics from my October trip to Thaoe via Maraposa to Hwy 49 to Hwy 4 to Hwy 89 around Emerald Bay to Donner Summit .
Highway 4

Emerald Bay

Through the old train tunnels

Donner lake

In Royal Gorge XC area, Devil's Peak in the background

Made it, the trip home sucked, 8 hours as it decieded to start snowing like hell , plus all the smoke from the fires that weekend.

Nice pics. I love that stretch of Hwy 4 between ebbits pass and 89 in the fall, to many colors to take in at one time. The train tunnels are near Emerald Bay? How do you access them and how long of a ride can you make it into?(does it go all the way thru to somewhere?). Looks like that would make an interesting ride when the snow melts.

The tunnels are above Donner Lake, only a couple of miles. They start across from Donner Ski Ranch by the China Wall. From these you can get into Cold Stream Canyon or go down to the lake

Bump.

I'm putting together a ride from the SF Bay Area to the tunnels in August.
Thanks for the route tips. Those pictures really help decide how to get there. Now I just have to find a decent motel in the area.

did you go on the ride to the Tunnels later? pictures posted? I love that area and wanted to ride it the last time but ran out of time. I took 8 hours to ride
home through 89 to 50, to Placerville, 49, 26, back of Livermore to San Jose.

It was beautiful in the morning and hot, hot, hot in the afternoon. I like to stop a lot.
