My F800 Blackstone UOA

For those that are interested:
Not formatted quite right when copied and pasted but you'll get the picture.

This sample was taken after my Forever West trip. 2,800 miles offroad. So there was plenty of dust and the bike was loaded for 14 days so she also carried the extra weight of the gear.
BTW, no matter what BlacKstone says about going longer, my bikes never go more than 2k on drains. This one went 2.8 because of the trip.

FRANK: Wear looks great in the third sample from your F-800. The 2,800-mile trip you noted didn't phase this bike
one bit. Iron increased a little over last sample, but so did the oil change interval. This metal tracks with miles on the
oil, so the increase isn't anything to worry about. The TBN read 6.9, so you still had plenty of active additive left. The
oil was in good shape physically, containing no moisture, fuel, or signs of coolant. The air and oil filters are working well
too (see silicon and insolubles). Nice report at 15,500 total miles. Try going 3,500-4,000 miles next time.

Interesting. Do they make any estimates about usable life of the oil or is the recommendation to go 3,500 to 4,000 part of the equation to see how far you can go?

They test the oil for wear metals, viscoscity shear, flashpoints ect. As you can see my sample was still well with the 40w range with no abnormal wear metals suspended in the oil. So if I wasnt anal, I could extend the drain interval next time. You keep extending it until your UOA shows shear and or higher than average wear metals. Thats really the only way to know if your motor or speciffly, your oil in conjuction with your air & oil filtration can go as far as you current drain interval.
But then again, Im severly anal with maintence even though I dont keep my bikes all that long. I like this one though.

Also, the "active additive" comment refers to the oil itself and its makeup. Not an additional oil additive as you may think.
