I am beginning to wonder if this is even going to happen. Still no payment instruction. It seems they are starting to cut it pretty close, seeing as how it's exactly 4 weeks to race day.

I plan on driving up from San Diego early morning, catching the ferry across, and leaving the same night. if anyone wants to carpool, let's figure it out.

I heard from a friend that they had a big meeting last night about all the new red tape and extra expenses posed against them by the enviro-type-people....

I think we will be hearing one way or the other very soon....

if they call it off, I will be very cross about my $1000 house rental.

I've watched this thread unfold, and i agree. I would have loved to race this thing. I was used to planning for west coast races from here, it's a little harder, but that's OK. But when you are never really sure if it's gonna happen you just have to pass on it. It's really too bad.

Sounds like a plan. I'll start packing the fake id's, bail money, and airline tickets to a non-etraditeable country....take your pick:

Afghanistan, Algeria, Andorra, Angola, Armenia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, China (People's Republic of China), Union of the Comoros, Congo, Democratic Republic of the, Cote d' Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Laos, Lebanon, Libya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mali, Marshall Islands, Mauritania, Micronesia, Moldova, Mongolia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Niger, Oman, Qatar, Russian Federation, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia and Montenegro, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Vanuatu, Vietnam, Western Samoa, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.

I've heard Madagascar is just lovely in December

Sounds like a Gonzo motorcycle adventure is in the works

It would probably be wise for them to just let the event go as planned

Nine deputies, 3 sergeants, and a commander. And up to 12 reserve. For a population of 3500 people. Do you think that's sufficient police coverage?
