Question BMW parts online or through dealer?...

Is there a source for BMW parts online or do I absolutely have to go through the dealer?...

Well, most everything for my Suzuki I can buy online at huge discounts compared to what the dealer can get. Most everything that is non BMW specific like tires, etc I can also get online. But when it comes to stuff like side plastics and my beak I can't find it anywhere.

Will I have to go through the dealer?

This probably is a simple question (I'm expecting "yes I have to go through dealer") but I have to give it a shot since I can save so much through aftermarket online stores...

Thanks

Max BMW has a full OEM parts catalog online

I don't know how their prices compare to other options. I've bought a few bits from them and the service was very good.

Other than accessories and some basic maintanance parts, most stuff will be BMW only.

Max BMW is of course a dealer, so unless you are going for the mail order convienience, they are pretty much the same as any other dealer as far as prices. But you also need to factor in the shipping, so it may even be more costly if you live reasonably close to another dealer and don't have to factor in the mileage.

I recently compared prices for some parts and my local dealer was a bit cheaper than Max, plus no shipping. I have ordered from Max in the past when the Canadian prices were over inflated compared to the US, but now it seems they are well in line. Never the less, Max BMW is an excellent resource for pricing and comparing and for just looking up part numbers.

A woid to da wise.. Chicago BMW OEM parts mailorder gives you 20% off. Just have to be patient when you order.

Exactly. I usually use their site to look up part numbers then search around to for the best deal.

..don't forget, for us in the US, we pay shipping but don't pay sales tax when ordering online. In the end ordering online usually costs slightly more. But to me it's well worth saving a trip to the dealership.
