Tiger in Madison County

Took a little ride to Western N.C. on my trusty 1050 Triumph Tiger. Couple hundred miles of super-slab and bada-bing- Mount-TAINS. The mission: to check out Madison County's superb twisties. Let's get gassed... up.

Should be some fall color

Middlesboro K.Y. your basic Wally World in a meteor crater.

Fer Christ's sake DO NOT eat at one of these! Unless it's after midnite and you're loaded.

Meteor crater gravity distortion causes cameras to tilt off level.

Clinch Mt. Tn. overlook view towards the Smokies

Lakes on 25E in Tn. Nice Oct. day for a ride.

Something's wrong here. No bullet holes, or graffiti, or goofy sign-age?

That's more LIKE it!

Hot Springs N.C. Biker store for all your bandana helmet and chap-less ass needs

A fine day for a ride or a walk on the Appalachian Trail crossing 25E.

I did mention something about mountain roads, didn't I?

There's lots of this to come

Marshal N.C. -cool artsy river town, and county seat.

Old River Rd. to Asheville

Heading out Hwy 63 from A-ville to Dogget's Gap.

Big fun here

The beauty of Madison Co. roads, (and other Western N.C. roads) is the sparseness of traffic, the lack of much police patrol, and as much twisty stuff as you can handle. I'm not scratching the surface with this ride- there's lots more.

Trust N.C. Great brisket sandwich here

Spring Creek rd. Highly recommended

Just don't sling it off into this

Stackhouse road... 20mph means 20 mph

Local legend has it that behind the railroad bldg. which once sat on this pad of concrete the Tiger now parks on, the great Jimmy Rogers (yodeling brakeman of country music history) passed out drunk on occasion. In the background- the French Broad river rolls on

Thanks, Yikes!

We're lucky to live near all this aren't we?

Stackhouse. Drover station before the railroad came down the French Broad- family owned for over a hundred years.

Rafting companies take out here from the French Broad rapids.

Yeah, I know how everyone extols the virtues of !28 Dragon's tail- I've ridden it many times, but I'm tellin' ya if you're tired of the hoards of folks proving their manhood/ taming the dragon/ showing off for killboy/ using an 11 mile stretch of road as a destination/ or curiosity seekers... then the roads of Madison Co. hold the cure for all that.

25E up on Walnut Mtn. The ride from Hot springs to Asheville is superb. The Pisgah range in the distance.

Hot Springs watering hole. We're going in

Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. Cashmere IPA in this case. Yum

Hows bout some grub? Excellent veggie panini and world's greatest mac&cheese. Yum again

In the distance... the incredible distance.

Well, it's a 7 or 8 hour ride for me to get there- but yeah, I guess that's close. Closer than the Ozarks, or Rockies for sure.
