two ancient capitals

One Sunday afternoon with my girlfriend decided to walk with bikes !
decided to go to Pliska and Preslav These are two ancient capitals of Bulgaria!
The total distance was about 300 km.
First was Pliska, former name of the village is Aboba. Near the archaeologists from the Russian Archaeological Institute in Istanbul during 1899-1900 revealed the medieval city of Pliska or Plaskov, capital of Bulgaria (First Bulgarian Empire) by the end of the seventh century to about 893 when the capital moved to Preslav.

The area of the city is huge! Maybe around 15 or 20% of its area is excavated. As seen from the pictures archaeologists continue their work!
Museum has a very interesting collection but dumb allowed to shoot.....
The following photos are from the Basilica which is located about one kilometer from the center, then was in the city.About 20 years ago has been restored particles.

Maybe a statue of a great king

This is my girlfriend poketbike

Then ride for about 100 km. to Veliki Preslav.
The second capital of First Bulgarian Kingdom is located Ticha River, where at the time of Inn Omurtag were built palace and fortress. It was established by Tsar Simeon (893-927) at the time Bulgaria was at the height of its political and cultural development.

Fortress of Preslav, Pliska, like, consists of external and internal defense system. The inner fortress is situated almost in the middle of the outer city. Its shape is L-shaped, with round towers at the corners and square along the walls.

Palaces were built on a high plateau. Are preserved remains of an impressive palace complex consists of two monumental buildings: Great Palace, built of large stone blocks and the West Palace. Throne Hall was nave and also had three divisions. The findings confirm the description of John the Exarch, suggesting monumentality and the rich architecture of the palaces.

High terrace near the palaces of Preslav were the "Golden Church", a brilliant monument of ecclesiastical architecture of the first kingdom and unique monument of Bulgarian architecture in general.

this is one of four gates

The next few pictures are from the temple! Clearly the part that was renovated and the old stones!
Well water.....

there was no gold inside

in this place definitely has some presence ........

We found no treasure! But we started to home with smiling ....

Wow! Very impressive places!
Ruins a thousand years old is something that you can't find down here.

Abraços,

My country was founded more than 1300 years! And definitely has interesting historical places!
One problem is that there are highly developed as tourist sites, but this gives them a charm! And the other is that foreign media speak only negatives for Bulgaria and this certainly scares people to come here!

A long list

Last year I was working in Ireland with some people from Bulgaria and they said I should add Bulgaria to my list. It was already there, but your pictures have moved it up a bit which is good because I will need to live to at least 150 if I am to visit everywhere on it (unless I can stop teh distraction of working for a living). If I was selfish (which I am) I would hope the media carry on the negative reporting so I can have the place to myself, but that would be unfair to people who's company I enjoyed last year.

Are all Bulgarian women as attractive as your girlfriend and my former colleagues? If so I might have to find an excuse to leave Mrs MarkE at home!

Those ruins are amazing. So old compared to those here in America. Thanks for sharing.
