Hababam, don't worry--I'll be right there with you! I'm really a stark-noobie myself, although I've been riding street for a long time, and have done some sand dune stuff... I'm going slow and learning, so if I may say, join us!!

Well....
I'm gonna add (or subtract, as the case may be) a little on that.

Under normal dry conditions, the roads I am planning to take are totally doable on a big-bike with a semi-experienced rider. After this week's weather... maybe not so. Should still be fun for semi-noobs on smaller bikes (650's included), but a dirt-virgin on a shiney new 990 is gonna struggle, especially if still wearing stock scorps.

I got no problem doing an uber-noob big-bike off-road orientation ride sometime, but wasn't really planning that for this sunday.

As always, up to you guys.

Beleive me I have been riding with RIDER914 for several years now.

If he tells you the ride is not going to be big bike friendly take his word for it. That is not an understatement. I can only imagine the condition the roads are going to be in and hope to make this one on Sunday.

I think you might want to wait till the conditions are better. That's a whole lot of bike to ride in the mud with stock tires. Ben

Thanks Erwin for the encouragement, and Rider919, Ben & DSM8 for the sincere advice.
I wasn't sure that I would be able to join you yet, but I think I should wait for the Southern Cal. air to kick in for a "dirt-virgin" (I like that by the way) friendly conditions. :)
But if you see a big orange laying down somewhere on the dirt, please help him out, so that we can meet in person. ;)

I may still be up for a Sunday ride if conditions are decent, and I get my DR650 running again in time (long story). BUT... for anybody else in this area who wants to help, please go here:

In short, there's a local sportbike rider who has been missing since Dec 17th somewhere on Angeles Crest Highway. The forum has organized a huge rescue effort starting tomorrow and can use all the help they can get. I would go but I'm going out of town tomorrow early and won't be back til late Friday.

Erwin. I have been riding before where we are going on Sunday. Your bike is going to do well on the fireroads. Its going to shine when we hit the open desert. Will buddy up and will both make sure get home ok.

Thanks for posting this, I had heard on the radio about a rider missing, & then hadn't heard any more. Not knowing must be awful.....

Ok, got my brand new 606s mounted front and rear. So we need to hit up some open desert. Is the meeting place north of the 210? The weather should be perfect.

I cheated, I've been sick and working outside in the rain every night. So I just took the whole bike to the mc tire works. Was a little more expensive but I don't have any bloody knuckles. And I got the wheels balanced, what a difference balanced knobbies make. I can't wait to ride! The conditions are perfect

It is so freekin' nice out today!

Snow level stayed pretty high up so I don't expect anything like this...
