Happy Snapper & Goose Feather's Big Day Out!

Hi all.. despite warnings of big wind and rain, Goose Feather and I decided to head out for a day of riding. The original plan was the border ranges, but seeing as how the rain was supposed to be coming north from NSW we decided to head north and see if we could miss it.

First of all.. a bike needs petrol.

So we filled up at Aspley and then went over Clear Mountain (used to ride my push bike up there 45 years ago when it was all dirt) and the back way to Dayboro. Breakfast at the bakery and then up over Mt Mee and into Neurum coming out behind Somerset Dam.

Into Kilcoy for an early lunch and then onto Monsidale Road. At this point the temperature was really high.. a sign of things to come. Goose Feather stopped to remove the lining of his jacket...

That's better... lining removed.

Obligatory shot of the KLR!

And the big news here is that I got through the crossing that I had an off on last time. On to Jimna we went and had a cup of tea at the local museum who are supporting the retention of the fire tower. Only $2.00 for a cuppa and a biscuit.

So next it was down Sunday Creek Road. I love this road... although the abundance of slow moving goannas on the road and the odd very muddy patches in the shady areas did make for one or two interesting moments.

Came out to Maleny - Kenilworth Road so turned left and had a drink at my favourite biker's cafe. (Even cleaned the visor here courtesy of their gear)

Highly recommend this place.

From here we hi tailed it back to Maleny then down to Woodford where the heavens opened up. Goose Feather put on all his wet weather gear.. mine was at home and then we braved Mt Mee. Bloody Hell. Rain and then fog. Can you believe it. Thick pea soup fog. Traveling along around 30 K peering into the mist and following the white lines in the middle and LHS of the road. On the way a BMW road bike passed us.. must have XRAY vision.

Arrived home soaked to the skin last night... Mt Mee really had me worried. One of the hairiest rides I've ever done.

Not a lot of pictures.. a photographer's day off!

The route:

As Mark said, Fine and Sunny until about 1600 at Woodford, then it bucketed down

The OOPS marker was my major navigational faux-pas, looking for a Back Road to Neurum but found a Road Back to Mt Mee.

Some nice riding through that way. Monsildale and Sunday Crk Rds are great for a day out riding. Were all the crossings flowing on Monsildale Rd?

Yes.. all the crossings were flowing and... I stayed upright. (Not like last trip)

However... there was one very fast flowing crossing at Neurum that nearly brought me undone. Really slimy! Went in on trailing throttle, both feet down and I could feel my boots sliding on the slime.. as soon as I opened the throttle ever so gently the back wheel broke loose.

Somehow I managed to stay upright.

Hate that slime...
