GS weekend in West Virginia 13-15 May

This is an open innvitation to anyone who wishes to join us. Several ADvriders are spending this coming weekend at the Laurel Fork Campground in the Monongahela National Forest. We'll roll in early afternoon on Friday, set up camp, and then start riding. Will camp Friday and Saturday nights. Only fee is the $8 per site camping fee, but each site can hold up to 8. Be advised the Laurel Fork Campground is austere. No food, no electricity, no potable water, only a couple of privys. Closest gas or food is about 12 miles away via gravel/forest road. Goal is to ride the smallest roads we can find, explore the Mon, relax, and tell lies around a campfire in the evenings.

The campground is approx 10 miles west of Spruce Knob (the highest Mtn in WVa.) on FR 473, and is only about 3-4 hours west of the D.C area. It is accessible from at least 4 different directions, all unpaved. This is a dual sport weekend get-together, open to anyone who has their own gear, likes to camp, and wishes to really get back in the West Virginia boonies. Enjoy it now before they designate it a Wilderness Area and ban motorized vehicles.

Sorry, but I've made reservations for the Down East rally in Maine that same weekend. I'm doing a recon for a trip to Goose Bay, Labrador later this summer. I may hit the DH Bean Run in October. When is the BYOB-III and where?

Jeff,
BYOB III is at Boyer Station, near Arbovale, WV. Same place that the Cass
BMW rally is held. June 2-5. Go to ADVRIDER annual rallys thread for more info.

Damn. That is the same weekend as the Square Root in Maryland. Now I have to make a decision. I don't know which one would be more fun....

We are going to have a blast this weekend. Too bad no-one else in this forum seems to like to ride AND camp. Three of us are going tomorrow, with the possbility of another joining Saturday night. I'll scout out some good roads for you to ride when you come down for BYOB.

Thanks for the endorsement Jeff. I am doing my damnedest to plan a great Square Route Rally. I know it will be much more fun than BYOB.

I like to ride and camp and wish I could make it this weekend. Too much rally stuff to do since I am heading down to Hot Springs the 19th. Have fun and post a good trip report.

Sunday

I may try to join you guys early on sunday morning, depending on how early you try to roll out of there. I'm only about 2 hours from Spruce Knob and could probably catch a 9am "ride time" for you guys.
