no argument there; but the fact remains - it began life as a BMW.

After reading this thread from the beginning, forgive such a noob question. What would be the difference between a street/tracker and a scrambler?

which would be the better backroad / Forest Service road blaster ?

as I'm here I'll throw in my $.02...

A street tracker is generally accepted to be a street-legal version of a dirt-track racer, although there are plenty of them that diverge from this concept.

A scrambler is a street bike adapted for off-pavement activity, in some cases with as little as the addition of off-pavement tires. Back in the day (ie late 1940's and forward) scramblers were the bikes used for most desert racing, based on medium-large displacement (for the time) 4-strokes, 250-500cc singles (eg. BSA 441) and 500-650 twins (Triumphs and BSA's).

IMHO, a scrambler is the better choice for fire roads, Forest Service roads, etc.

I've had them a few years, one of the first things I did was a 10' burn out on them. I'm riding with them.

I run an MT53 that is a fresh 30 or so years old on the front of my street tracker Yamaha TT540. Not exactly the greatest tire, but gets the job done. And, makes dirt roads fun for the occasional blast down them.
