Are there ANY solutions to horrible drakes?
Ok, so I have recently put brand new OEM brakes on my 86 Elite 150. It has old drum brakes. So everything is goin good with it, BUT the brakes SUCK!
![]() They are correctly adjusted, the drums are replaced, etc. Everything is done and adjusted as per the service manuel. But these brakes still flat out suck. They are slightly better than before, but not a whole lot. I expected just a bit more performance out of a nice brake job though, epically with such old brakes that were below the service limit. I mean you know how when you do a nice brake job on your car how much more powerful they feel? I expected a bit more stopping power out of em though. I know how shitty drum brakes are, believe me I have ridden many many bikes with drums. I also have a Honda 100, and those drums are terrible! So as for the performance, they do their job on a general basis, it's just those sudden stops. If I push that pedal to the floor hard and pull hard back on the front brake, it takes forever to stop from even 35 MPH. I have done some braking tests with scary results! SO my question is are their any maybe high performance or better aftermarket brakes for this bike? I have seen some on a site like battlescooter performance parts and I though I saw a hop up brake kit for Elite 150s. Anyone know anything about these? I am just worried about this poor performance brakes having to slow me down from 55 MPH when I get cut off or something. They also worry me a bit in the twisties when I need to slow down before a tight corner. Their not HORRIBLE, they just don't have great performance at all. I know it is the norm of old scoots with drums, but I wander if theres anything I can do? |
