A little WV Trivia

This is a pix of an canceled letter envelope my parents sent to me from the temporary post office they had set up at the end of the New River Gorge Bridge on the day they opened it. I believe my dad, who was teaching high school in Glenville, was also writing for one of the Parkersburg newspapers at the time. Of course, all of the State’s bigwigs were there and it was probably an opportunity for interviews and pix he couldn’t miss.

I wonder how many folks still have these squirreled away?

Interesting to note that the stamp is also a bridge design. Nice bit o' history you got there, my friend.

Thats cool. Just curious, it appears that the bridge on the stamp has a built on date and i think a tear down date? Any info on that? Wondering if its the bridge that was used til the new one was built?

It is actually the US - Canada Peace Bridge

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_Bridge

The date spread commemorates its 50 years of service in 1977 (it was opened in 1927).
