Also, for the record, I wasn't eating cold Chef Boyardee - i heated it up over my bandit campfire! (there was no WAY I was paying another $8 on top of the $34 campsite for the "privilege" to build a fire....)Damn tourist traps. |

I put the fresh Mefo SE on Tiger for the Alaska Trip. It easily survived the entire 6K trip, and still has about 3K miles to go, and I have not been easy on it. Between the late trail braking, and the power roosts coming out of corners and leaving parking lots it's still holding up well. Actually MAG told me to stop roosting in the gas station parking lots. I accidentally threw a rock and broke her headlight as we left Frog Station in BC. For 50 / 50 riding the Mefo SE is my favorite rear tire. Q~

Day 5: Wednesday June 16, 2010
So we had a wonderful evening with GISdood.
The next morning we took advantage of the free Wi-Fi, and got caught up with E-mails, and Skype phone calls. We got a message from Brandt. We would meet up with him again at a Provincial Park and split the camping fees as usual. (Yes, MAG and I are frugal. But that's part of how we can afford to take such long trips and ride such great motorcycles. It's a matter of priorities. Our bikes get the best parts, and the best gas, while we sleep on the ground and eat Glorp and cold sandwiches.)We were packed an on the road by noon. Our first stop was to stock up on supplies such as food, oil and gas. Gotta have Glorp! Then we quickly fed at our favorite restaurant, Subway - even though I had promised MAG not to. ![]() ![]() Can you see the excitement on MAG's face? Then we hit the road again. ![]() We primarily shared the road with these big trucks hauling trees. ![]() And the road kept heading north. It was today that I started to understand how far we had to travel. For hours we would ride straight roads and never seem to get anywhere. All we saw were trees. ![]() So I got bored and started taking "fun" pictures. Here's a picture of MAG taking a picture of me as we rode side by side. ![]() Along the ride I got hit in the face with a big bug... so I did what I always do, I took a picture! ![]() We went past Mackenzie. ![]() We stopped at these waterfalls for a break and to stretch our legs. ![]() Back on the road, more scenic views... ![]() More pretty views. It's starting to look like Alaska now. ![]() A section of road construction. ![]() More riding. ![]() After a few more hours we got to the town of Chetwynd. ![]() We stopped to get some gas. Look at the cool adventure bikes. ![]() ![]() Leaving town, we saw this huge parking lot full of windmill parts. ![]() More huge areas of straight-ness. ![]() and more.... ![]() Finally we come to a few nice corners, and I was so delighted to lean the bike into the turns. I had almost forgotten how to lean the bike. But the corners got us up on to the vista overlooking Peace Valley. Here's the view. ![]() Here's the same vista in Panorama mode. ![]() It was a beautiful place. Nearly untouched wilderness. An hour later we arrived at the campsite. Time for a victory beer! ![]() ![]() Poor Tiger is all covered with bugs. Here's a picture of MAG's victory Pop-Tarts. ![]() Brandt was already at the campsite. He bought a bottle of wine, but he did not have a corkscrew, so he had to improvise. ![]() So after another day of riding, we all relaxed and enjoyed bug free campsite, and cooked dinner. ![]() We didn't know how good we had it... Stay tuned. Stats for the day: 298 miles Moving Average 54.5 Moving Time 5:27 Stopped 2:29 Total 7:57 Q~

Thanks Mag-----that's great mileage. Nice to know you won't have to find a new tire on a 7-8,000 mile trip. Mark
