Thanks man, it was an awesome ride. It's hard to beat the first adventure, but we are going to try.

Well suck, and you gotta be ready for Kilamonjaro in 12 days? I smell last-minute plane tickets in your future. Myeh though, just another adventure. Do hope for your sakes (monitary and sanity) that the Katoom part gets there pronto but you two seem the type to take these things in stride. ('course, everyone has a breaking point and I'm guessing you guys are veeeeery close to yours after, er, how many weeks now?)

Kilimanjaro is now canceled.

We thought for a minute we had my bike running today. It lasted 1 1/2 minutes. We did absolutely everything we could to trouble shoot it. We threw in the towel and towed it to the professionals. There is where Nick needs to log on and say how much better BMW is than KTM.

So here we are, in three days it will be a month we have been in Cape Town. We joke around with the employees that we are going to apply for a job at this hostel. This is life and this is real. We signed up for this adventure and we have one heck of a start!!!!

I hope some people are getting a little enjoyment at our expense

Sucks about Kilamanjaro but hope the KTM gets its butt in gear soon. At least it didn't happen in the middle of the Sahara right?

This should be fun. Are you going through Zambia? My sister has a fishing lodge on the Zambezi river. Fun road to get there!

Yup....be careful out there guys. Too many tourists to Africa think "zoo" animals...and pay the price. Touching the elephant on a dare was *not* a great idea, guys. Bad stuff can happen real quick.

Anyway, hope you get the Katoom sorted out quickly and look forward to the RR....awesome adventure.

Laugh It's nice to see a report of my Valley

Thanks for the cool report . I am from Uitenhage in South Africa , it's a little town just outside Port Elizabeth . It is good to see photos of ADDO again . When I lived there , myself and friends used to go to ADDO at leat twice a month just to eye-ball the animals and BRAAI (Barbecue ) .

I am living in Greenville , South Carolina , and it is surely a pleasure seeing ADDO and SA again .

We are going hom ein 4 weeks time and can not wait to go out in the bush again .

Your ride report is pretty cool .

Have a safe trip and HAVE FUN mate .

PS....do not try and touch a wild african elephant......ever!

This is a motorcycle RR?

Great pictures and awesome commentary! Can't wait to watch and read the rest of your RR. In for sure! Good luck on the KTM. Hope you get it squared away quick and are on the road.

yeah, we are not sure. I mean we have bikes with us, we just aren't riding them. I think I'll post a bike picture today to keep this legit.

Don't sweat it guys, we believe you. I suppose you could do this trip 2-up on the BMW, but it'll probably give the wrong impression.

Con or Not?...

I was outside of "Yours Truly" lurking some free WiFi facebooking and Tweeting when this Man comes up to me asking for the time. That turned into are you an American? He says good and starts laying down the story. This is the abridged version. He is a Canadian on vacation with his 3 syblings 9,12 and 19. He is the oldest 31 and they all got their passports stolen on a bus. So he needs money 360R ($55 USD) to get bus tickets to go to a village outside of Cape Town to the Canadian Consulate. I am always down to help people and at first the story sounded ok, so I went into a shop to sit down and talk. The more he talked the more the story Mirrored the story of the "Religious Man" from my last motorcycle trip in Mexico. Things were not adding up in my head...

Why did you leave your passport less siblings alone some where?
Why does he know where my backpacker is since he's only been here a few days?
Why is his fair skin not complely sun burned?
Why won't he talk slower and calm down when I ask him to?
Why is he showing aggression to me and mad that I am taking a while to convince?
I pull out my camera and want to take a photo of him. This is another way for me to read him. I hit the record button and ask him to slowly go through his story again. I know if I was telling the truth, I would be ok with that. He gets really mad and tries to block the camera. Saying I am a horrible American. Why won't I help him out. He takes the notes that we had been writing on a napkin and storms out. I will never know the truth to the story. It is impossible to say, but I THINK this guy was a fake.
Such an old scam. This very similar thing happened to me just last week here in Los Angeles.

"Hey man, I'm not looking for a handout, but my kid had a doctor's appt this morning for her Lukemia and I rushed out so fast I forgot money for a return train tkt back to Riverside and I need to get her back. All I need is just $13 more."

I love how they ask for an odd sum to make it feel more realistic.
