So this bike belonged to inmate Creswellelkhunter. You might try to PM him for details. The swingarm itself is very stout but I think the stack-o-washers spacer could use some fine tuneing.

Mate with the bigger bore you will need to get a little better than stock and i have tried about everything and settled on the Jesse mod because like you I want stealth not the "hey look at me " thing.

At our altitude I get a bit of popping on decel but nothing like you would get on the aftermarkets, play with the jetting and you will get it close .

Another thing to consider when going big bore is the rise in compression ratio .This conversation took place late one night and was fairly revealing to me. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=646691

This is how my 450 work out .


Somewhere around 11.8:1.

Assumptions. 9.5:1 is accurate. I have used 350cc and 450cc as the actual displacements - fine tune it yourself :) . 1mm squish height. Flat top pistons with valve reliefs that have not changed volume. If the pistons have a dome or dish that differs from the original the new volume must be taken into account.

1. Calculate chamber and squish volume of the 350 using C=Vs/Vc ie. Vc=Vs/C = 350/9.5 = 36.8cc

2. Calculate the difference in volume of the squish area using V=pi.r^2.h. ie V2-V1 = (pi. (8.95/2)^2. 0.1) - (pi. (7.9/2)^2. 0.1) = 1.38cc

3. Add volume to the chamber/squish volume calculated in 1. to the volume in 2. then calculate the new compression ratio.
C = 450 / (36.8+1.38) = 11.77

Armed with this information i will be skimming the piston top next time I pull it apart . Near 12 / 1 is a little high in my opinion and yours will be even higher if you go to 460cc.

If you want to save a fraction of an ounce, get the clutch pull lever from the '91 DR250S with the pimp lightening holes (or drill your own)

Nope, in fact, this morning I'm adding a large capacitor to the wiring harness so I can get rid of the battery.

BTW, I now have an extra 350cc jug that has theaded holes for mounting a starter. If someone wants it, I'll trade you your old bore, or make me an offer.

Unless all the pertinent dimensions and volumes have been verified with actual measurement, the 11.8:1 number calculated backward from the OEM advertised ratio of 9.5:1 is really just a SWAG(scientific wild-ass guess). When a few of us were gathering Honda RFVC piston dims on TT, we found that not only were aftermarket pistons overstated, but that Honda overstated the stock static ratio as well. Maybe that's not the case with Suzuki; I don't know. Only taking actual measurements will say.

Clutch no workie

The clutch doesn't completely engage, or disengage. I'll pull it apart to try and see what's going on. Any ideas?

Notice the headlight is on. Without a battery, that's got to mean the engine's running... nice! It started on about the fourth kick. But now I have to tear it all apart again to see what's wrong with the clutch.

Oversized Tank

I should have done a little more research in the oversized-tank department. I ordered the Clarke tank. After I ordered it I read some reviews and everyone recommends the Acerbis tank, and no one recommends the Clarke. Here's one of the reasons: the last half gallon-or-so of gas is unusable. You can see the remaining gas in the tank is below the petcock, so unless you can wheelie your way to the gas station, you're just carrying around extra weight. I did some weighing; the tank holds 2 lb, 1 oz of useless fuel. I hate extra weight.
