Well it turned out Heffernan Lane was closed off for the tail end of the Chinese New Year festivities anyway, but there are plenty of cobbled lanes in Melbourne: ![]() This is the north leg of Rutledge Lane in Melbourne, taken from Hosier Lane. Hosier Lane is a bit of a centre of respectable "graffitti art" in Melbourne. This is Hosier Lane, from the south leg of Rutledge Lane: ![]() The new tag... ![]() ...is a gondola! No, wait, that's a mistake, that's just more cobblestones. The gondola and the 1966/7 VC Chrysler Valiant were both kind of cool, but probably a bit difficult to replicate. The new tag is a horse drawn vehicle on a public road: ![]() A glossy black Amish buggy would be really nice! |

We had a road rather like that at the General Motors Holden Proving Ground at Lang Lang here in Australia.
It was called "Belgian blocks" and is a standard feature of any vehicle proving ground because it provides a realistic rough road which is easy to maintain in a constant state so that this year's test of 8000km of Belgian blocks is truly the same as the one they did ten years ago or two years from now. BTW, 8000km at 40kph on Belgian blocks really loosens up a car's body! |

I rode around downtown today but no joy. They must only run on the weekends.

Not easy to find anything like that around here. Obviously even less so in winter...
We got fresh snow today..

I actually know a place a few miles from here where they have those for tourists. Dog-sledding as well. There is no way to get there by bike, though...

I'm going to try for this one...
"J&L Carriage has been in business since 1998. We offer carriage tours in the downtown area weekends. We offer narrated versions or quiet romantic rides. Weddings and horse-drawn funerals are also available. Our hours of operation are Friday 6-10 PM Saturday 12-10 PM and Sunday 12-6. We also accommodate other hours if needed." |
