Sunshine Coast to Warra

Well this weekend I needed to go to a baby shower and party at the property my brother lives at. Warra is on the Warrego Highway, west of Toowoomba in Qld. It's very beautiful and green out there at the moment.

I haven't done a RR before and this was my first ride alone on any dirt or gravel so I didn't do a lot of it.

I left at about 6am on Saturday and had planned to get there by 10 or 11. Didn't quite work out that way

My route (well the points I remembered to hit my spot button):

The ride out was tar until just past Yarraman. I copped the full 15 minute wait at Blackbutt range. There was a landslide in the floods so the entire range is one way. I wasn't game to get off the bike or take my helmet off in case the light turned green so I took off my gloves and rolled a smoke. Its been a long time since I tried to smoke wearing my helmet lol. Also had AcDc blaring in my helmet so I sat there head banging without realising it, I am sure the truckie behind me thought it was hilarious.

Just after Yarraman theres a track that cuts across to Maidenwell. Its called the Maidenwell - Upper Yarraman Rd funny enough. I was glad it wasn't wet as a lot of it is red clay. It runs though some really gorgeous country, farmland, forestry and bush.

Little bit of water:

Minor road damage

I took a wrong turn at the end of it and had to turn around after a while and back track to Maidenwell. I should get a real gps so I don't rely on memorising maps.

I had forgotten that a lot of the road from Maidenwell to Bunya Mountains is gravel. So that was a nice surprise! Its a lovely ride out there.

Part of Bunya Mountains:

I haven't got anymore pics cause I am very slack at stopping and getting the camera out.

I think I missed the turn I was going to take off the Bunya Highway to go towards Bell so I did quite a loop of the country out there. From Bell I went though Jimbour and along a road through the cotton fields to Macalister. Then I had a short blat down the highway to Warra.

Stayed there the night, drinking a lot and sleeping very little. Met a fellow rider, Glenn, who my brother works for so got to talk about bikes plenty Skinny dipped in a huge muddy dam for hours in the middle of the night. (Sorry for puking in your dam Glenn) Subsequently I woke up not really feeling like the long ride home and procrastinated until lunch time.

Due to my hungover state I wussed out and took the tar home. Rode to Toowoomba, Grantham (to sticky beak at the flood damage, poor buggers), Esk, Kilcoy and back home. Wanted to go along past Somerset but there was a road closed sign which I should've stopped and read properly as it seems I could have gone there after all.

And thats all folks.

Thanks guys Wish I hadn't had to be somewhere by lunch that day or I would've had more dirt! And then the Sunday I was just too hungover and needed to be home at a decent time cos I was flying to Melb the next morning.

Bloody Tops Nazza. I know what ya mean. Ya tend to forget to stop and get piccies all the time. Sometimes ya have to constantly remind yourself to take piccies.
I don't know how much great countryside I should have taken piccies of but just forget to.
You go girl, Cheers,
Johnnie
