Central Virginia

Virginia's Friday weather saw morning temps in the 50s and afternoon temps in the 80s. I set out to see some of the countryside in Central Virginia.

I met my uncle and his XR1200 in Burkeville.

We met up across the street from this old Veneer plant.

Seems a tour was out of the question.

There were some trucks and an old car scattered about. I didn't see anything newer than the 70s. The trucks were all earlier.

We cruised out the back way and over to the ("famous"?) High Bridge, so called because it was and still is. We didn't see the actual bridge because we weren't interested in walking the half mile down the path. The picture is interesting because the pillars look to be all brick. The picture is from 1865. That makes the achievement of the massive supports all the more impressive to me.

We meandered out to VA Route 56, a great road. We wound our way up to Wingina, a signpost on the James river. The river was up.

Nice spread up on the hill.

We headed towards Norwood, after which time we got lost and stopped at this rest area to re-orient.

Here is a representation of the roads near Norwood.

Time was getting short, so I headed home from here. I commented to my Uncle at the rest stop that I'd much rather be lost out here than sitting at home. He replied, "I'm reminded of the words from an old Roger Miller song, 'Me and this other fool'." I told him to call me any time he planned on foolishness.

Nice pics, looks like a great day.

Did the BRP last summer and spent some time exploring some of the local roads around Afton and Waynesboro. Hope to spend more time tooling around this summer.

Nice stuff. re the High Bridge, here's the High Level Bridge in Edmonton. Two lane driving deck with rail line on top.

I'd rather be dragging a club than clubbing in drag.

Mr. Ford... excellent riding in that area.

Red Dog... that looks very similar. I guess design goes through phases, huh?
