donnelly wildlife management area was privately owned until just a few yeas ago...i had the priveledge of hunting there and enjoyed the photos... beautiful, i can almost hear the wind...i believe the snake is indeed a water snake, perhaps a "banded ws"

DING DING DING we have a winner. Banded water snake.

non poisonous, HOWEVER the water moccasin is VERY poisonous and has a really similar body and a wider more triangular head.

Mike, I just zoomed in on Francis Marion and DUDE... you gotta get up there. Looks like mile after mile of sand forest service roads with various ponds and tasty looking areas for wildlife.

I'm as jealous as hell...

Yeah, that woods looks enticing. I want to buy a small place in the area, I'm set to look at a spot near that mongo lake just NW of the Francis Marion SF. Moutrie, I think.
If I can find a cool property and manage to pull off buying it, I will be so casper around here, come winter!

Francis Marion National Forest has MILES of well-graded, usually gravel Forest Service Roads. You can ride 20 or 30 miles on some sections without crossing pavement. It's a great place to spend a day exploring. Even the paved roads in the area are decent- nice scenery and some curvy sections, although nothing like real twisties.

The Wambaugh off-road trail is supposedly very gnarly and suitable for serious off-road bikes only.

You can get them going like stink downhill, but those tiny drum brakes do little to slow down a full-sized guy barreling into a cul-de-sac with a porta-potty dead ahead. My Daytrip today didn't net any photos, nor did I ride the bike...but I spent the morning @ Charleston County Court House in Family Court. Two of "my" boys got adopted this a.m. They're safe now.

Mission.
Accomplished.

Best daytrip ever.
