RIP Gil Clancy

[No False Enthusiasm]

When Clancy was named to help train De La Hoya, he viewed him as virtually a complete fighter. But there was always room for a fighter to learn something, as Clancy saw it.

“I worked Emile Griffith’s corner for over 120 rounds, and, after every one, I’d say something to him,” Clancy told The Los Angeles Times.

“He asked me once, ‘Don’t I ever do anything right?’ I said: ‘You do almost everything right. But I’m looking for the perfect round.’ ”

One of my tank commanders was in Clancy's stable of boxers. SGT Cruz also thought highly of him.
