Givi Trekker Sizes - opinion poll

Hi Guys -

I'm getting Trekkers for my F800 and want opinions on whether to balance 33/46 (My preference for upcoming 2700 km (that'd be 1700 mi for the Yanks and POM's) commute home, and to have 3 top case choices in the end) or 33/33.

I already have 52l top case and Ortlieb soft saddle bags.

Please try to stay on topic...

Jon

ps anyone know to get rid of this crap black background?

Sigh.... If I had to choose on hard cases I would go with the balanced large/small combo. You can always use the extra space and the extra width won't hurt if it looks OK. That being said I've never owned a hard case...

Opinions?

What, no opinions from this crowd?
I guess the "stay on topic" scared everyone away?

Well OK, since you asked: I think Givi Trekkers are really ugly, and they look like they wouldn't survive a single tip-over, much less a decent biff on a gravel road.

Now, do you really want to base your purchasing decision on what some asshat like me thinks about your choice? Really?

If you like 'em, get 'em. That is my opinion.

Opinions?

Well, yes, actually.
Money no object I would have TT's on Holan balanced racks, but availability has been limited.
2nd choice would be BMW on Holan racks.
Only other viable option for me is the Trax. But like I said, the Givi cases work as top cases as well...

Cool2

I guess I'd need to know why you want the side cases if you already have the Ortliebs. My opinion is don't buy more storage than you really need or you'll bring the kitchen sink along when all you really need is your dinner bowl with some sudsy water in it. I agree with Woodworks that the Givis look a bit fragile for a bike that just may tip over a time or two if the owner is riding in the right places with it. But I have a Giant Loop Great Basin, so don't listen to me

To balance or unbalance?
What is the difference in total width from left side case to right side case?
That's important to know. It may be a negligible difference.
In that case, go with the bigger cases --if you can deal with the look.
Yes, you should pack efficiently, but it's nice to have more storage....for souvenirs...

Although, if you have a 52L top case you should have a ton of storage already.

When I go it's for several months a at a time, and several thousand km's. The sink needs to go along, and yes no Giant Sausages on my bike thanks.

Jon
ps the question was opinion on whether narrower or balanced....

Theres 3" more width with the larger case on the right side. The top cases rides half empty, giving space when stopped for helmet, jacket etc.

Jon

ps the benefit is that all Givi monokeys can be used as top cases and the cost of purchasing in Ontario is 30% more....
