Good news! I ordered the connectors and bar mount switches. Will have them in about 5 days.
I'll start a vendors thread in the next few weeks sometime.

Yeti will be testing a unit and I will need a second F800GS rider who dirt rides a lot to test a unit also.

It don't work!!!

hooked up the plugs and such from burnsmoto and the swith does indeed deactivate the ABS while moving... no problem there!

however... to reactivate you cannot just flip the switch back on (tested standing still and rolling)... you have to turn the bike off, flip switch, then turn bike back on.

I even tried to restart ABS by rolling to a stop and holding the ABS button... still nothing...

thoughts?

The purpose of the switch is to shut the ABS off for a day of dirt riding. So, I would say it accomplishes that. Turning the ABS on at the end of the day by flicking the switch and turning the ignition of and on isn't a big deal imho.

If I were in charge of the programming effort for the ABS system I would have written the code the same way ... (BTW there's little chance of that I would be put in charge ... )

Anyway ... It would have been my preference to do the same: Once an ABS system failure is detected and the system is deactivated under power (which is what the switch accomplishes) I would indeed required the system to go through the POST (Power On Self Test) sequence and then the standard "rolling start" recalibration in order to be reasonably assured that whatever system fault previously detected had indeed been cleared and that a reactivation was safe and warranted.

Under no circumstances would I allow the system to be re-activated with the bike running and possibly in motion. Too many lawyers waiting for a chance to sue my ass clean off...

I would speculate that that what you have done is the best that can be done outside of BMW's development labs; and it's a very clever thing you have accomplished!

Except that every time you power down the bike when you stop, next time you fire it up, ABS is on.

I don't know anyone that rides all day without shutting the bike of for lunch and a few breaks.

MNB, just a clarification... We're testing a connector with a master switch that goes under the seat and shuts off the ABS at the source. We're not talking about the ABS switch on the handlebars.

Don't think that's how it works here. If I read correctly, once the bike is OFF, then you flip the ABS defeat switch, and then turn the bike back on. So a simple ignition off/on won't do it, you have to toggle the switch while it's powered down.

Sounds like a great system; I've nearly killed myself numerous times by forgetting to turn off ABS after a break, so I'm very interested!

I knew that, but I thought you'd veered back to talking about how it operated stock. I guess you weren't.

Hmm, I have no problem with having to fully power down to put the bike back in stock mode, vs ABS always off. I assume the ABS indicator warning is on when disabled?

Of course, they need to fix my clutch/transmission. Two dead clutches in 12k miles and it still doesn't shift right or drop into neutral most of the time.

I think you all have come up with a great work-around for the ABS issue.

I'd like to ask the question a different way...

The default setting for the F800GS with ABS is "ABS On"

Is there any way possible to change the default setting to "ABS Off" and use the ABS button to turn it on when you need it?
