Pirelli Scorpion Rally now in 150/70-17
Pirelli is now making their classic Scorpion Rally in a 150/70-17 size.
![]() Ta hell with the TKC80's or Big Blocks! I've been waiting for this since I got this bike in November 2008! http://www.pirelli.com/tyre/ww/en/mo...ion_rally.html The tire is not quite at dealers yet, but will be very soon. ![]() ![]() The choice of champions: specifically for desert racing and rallies.

Scorpion Pro has always been one of my favorite tires. Never tried a rally version before... are they any good? (he he he)

Are these in the same container as the K60's?
ETA and/or price?

I think this is a FIM tire, so the knobs are going to be shorter on the back tires.

Any idea of price range? Are these going to be a Pirelli branded TKC or can I actually afford to eat things besides Ramen for a month?
![]() On another note, it's nice to see more companies embracing the "mid-sized adventure" market. Maybe we'll see more semi-hardcore 17" tires like the D606 in 150/140 sizes.

The knobs really don't look very deep from those pictures; certainly not as deep as the TKC or the Big Block. I'd like to see some more pictures before I get too excited...

Though an F.I.M. tire, the Scorpion Rally has a tread that is as deep if not deeper than a TKC80 or Big Block. I've seen and handled all three in person.

F.I.M. doesn't mean the knobs are going to be as short as some folks tell you they're going to be. For some reason there is a vicious rumor going around that F.I.M. means insanely shallow tread. That's a lie. Don't believe it. Here is a picture of my Metzeler MCE 6 Days Extreme F.I.M. rear 140/80-18 that is on my new 2010 G450X:
The knobs on the Pirelli Scorpion Rally are the same height as the Metzeler 6 Days Extreme. A friend of mine just got a new Scorpion Rally for his DRZ, so I've seen them both first hand. Also, the knobs on the Pirelli Scorpion Rally are actually higher than a TKC80 or Big Block.

Any guesses on tread life? Likely no worse than the TKCs.

Yeah, I'm guessing it won't be any worse than the 3,000 or so people are getting out of the TKC80's and Big Blocks.
If I can get 3,000 miles out of an awesome $120 DOT knobby, I'll be a happy camper. Cheers to Pirelli. It's a good marketing move to offer this tire in the 150/70-17 size. |
