Canyonlands Maze District

This winter has been hell and we just had to go south and thaw out a little. So we loaded the machines in the truck and headed down to Glen Canyon National Rec Area. I planned on day-trippin up into the maze district of canyonlands one day.

We camped just a few miles from Hite.

Saturday I rode the XT250 north about 50 miles.

At this point I decided to go see the maze overlook. I've been playing in southern utah for over 20 years but that's one place I had never been.

I think that's the doll house road down there.

The road got kind of interesting at this point.

The next day we packed a picnic and wifey hopped on the quad and we rode 20 miles to a spot overlooking the Colorado River 2000 feet below.

Nice!

Been thinking of a trip in there.

Any law enforcement? Based on their website I wasn't clear if a permit was required for day use?

North of about the 28 mile mark camping requires a permit, and no dogs or atv's. Thru trips are free as far as I know. There was no traffic, LE or otherwise.

We were lounging around camp Sunday afternoon when a young guy with a backpack came walking down the wash. He started to filter some of the nasty pothole water, even though there was cow crap everywhere, because he said it's the only water he'd seen all day. I asked him where he came from. He said Mexico. He said he was walking to some lake in the northern canadian rockies. Now that's a hike! I gave him some good water. -al
