I've enjoyed all the pictures in this thread so thought I'd post a few since I rode through the area last weekend. Unfortunately I didn't hit any dirt on this ride, but it's always an adventure going 200+ miles on a sumo.
![]() I took friday off of work because the weather was looking good. The plan was to ride over (from Portland) to Madras to visit a friend for the weekend and come back on Sunday. I could see that the sunday weather looked crappy but just tried to ignore it because friday looked so good. I really hate stopping when I ride. For me it is all about being on the bike. I usually don't even bother to dismount when refueling. I don't end up taking many pictures. Here's my bike all loaded up for the ride: I rode from Portland out the gorge, following the Old Highway as much as possible. Here are a few pictures from Rowena Point: There are a lot of wild sunflowers in bloom up there right now. I turned south at Biggs Junction and then onto 206 toward Condon. I hadn't been on this road before and was surprised how many windmills are out there. I've always really liked the hills when traveling south out of both The Dalles and Biggs. From Condon I turned south to Fossil and then west toward Antelope. Here are a few shots from that great ride between Fossil and Antelope. I didn't take any pictures coming back on Sunday. I was tired, it was raining, and it was very windy. Took the route north on 197 through Maupin and The Dalles to get home. Saw a lot of rally cars up near The Dalles. Squishy did his RR here The 990 is not yet back, they needed to order spokes for the front rim. Apparently riding it all this winter and never cleaning it has allowed the salt spray crap to pit the shit out of the chrome on the front spokes. It did not effect the rear spokes nearly as bad. Well, we nailed the even odds. We had nice weather for 2/3 of the time up there. Friday & Saturday were very sweet, and Sunday it rained ALL DAY. I did not pay attention to where Neah Bay even is, I did not navigate this trip (but maybe I shoulda, with all the turnin' around we did ).'Twas an "Adventure", we were never actually LOST ![]() Quote:
.The heavily moss covered old growth soaked up ALL the rain & kept us dry all evening on the picnic table. But, I was absolutely soaked to the bone, riding home on Sunday.

You just made this thread's opening Post #1 with your RR I'm glad you had a great time here. That road between Fossil and Antelope, then up to Shaniko is one of my favorite sections of pavers. Empty, and fast & sweet . And it's still green right now, adding to the beauty of the ride. The Oregon Trail Pro Rally found it's way to our neck of the woods this year . Sorry I missed it We'll get the Mt. Hood Pro Rally later this year also, with MotoRally, too!!

if you're interested in a sunday west side ride, I'm doing a somewhat shadow friendly dirty rd loop between rogers pass (off hwy 6) and manzanita. Mexican in manzanita. The SNOTEL sensor at 3100ft shows the last bit of snow melted off May 6th. Good sign we can now get thru the remote passes.

Last weekend I wore that back tire to the bone, and another long ride would push it past where I should take it. I just bought a new Kenda rear for it for $52 from JC Whitney! (and a bunch other overdue maintance stuff) Cheapest price around, but it won't be here until next week. Quote:

My bags on the Shadow have two bad zippers too. Beyond WD-40 bad. After riding so long with gear, and after....um..."testing" the gear I had on one day this last March, I'm with you, there. It does feel naked without now.

Something (anything) around here, so if my back tire don't make it,
I can get it in the pickup without a huge deal. Let's find out how many lakes are open to get to.

They plowed the road out to lost lake the other day. Also just a heads up, they are going to plow Lake Branch Rd. and Red Hill Rd. for the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic just not sure when.

Now all they have to do is fix Lost Lake Rd. through Dee. My God! Moore Const. is going to make a lifetime career out of that pipe project.
