Dry and warm here
Hope that the weekend is dry and warm, but not too dry and warm for you. Nice as hell here in Muskoka once discovered never forgotten land. Still need more pic's of the festivities.

Well what a grueling day this has been, but not for Stephanie (Dresda) and me. :) We ended up doing more of the support on this ride than the off-road part of the ride itself. This meant escorting a guy who'd broken his F650GS Dakar front brake lever in a fall, to try to find him a replacement. The kind people at Carson's in Perth tried very hard to help, bringing many levers out and even taking them off their used stock to see if anything would fit. When they had nothing, they phoned Woody's KTM shop also in Perth, and he said he should be able to help so we went there. Woody himself tried, but nothing would prove to be a match for that particular lever. We did see a very nice bike there, which would have made a great replacement bike instead of lever... Alas, nothing fit so we just got back on the road, and rejoined the ride. We ended up doing some of the trails and back roads, but this was nothing compared to what Skibum and the others had to go through. All the riders started off in a heavy, prolonged downpour, then they went through water crossings as deep as their crotches I'm told, with temperatures hovering around 12C for a lot of the morning, then no more than 14C later in the day. At one point we were passed by a guy on an R1200GS with only one saddlebag. The other was tied on the seat behind him, since the mounts were broken off in a fall. Tomorrow we're heading into the KTM dealer to get a shift lever for an LC4, another broken part in the day's tally. When I saw Skibum just before the end of the day he greeted me with "Well I didn't drown your bike!". Argh! A new KTM 990 Adventure did get drowned, though, in the deep water. They got it back to life shortly after, and he was riding with Mike at that point. Stephanie and I came home tonight since it's not that far, and we wanted the comfort of a warm bed. Ironically the Renfrew area was dry and relatively warm, but when we got back into Ottawa, it was like the rain had never left the area, and it was drizzling and chilly. Ok, call us wusses, we don't care. When you think about it, we like to watch things like the Dakar Rally, but we never said we'd do it ourselves! :

Sorry, should have mentioned that the Dakar rider did find another lever, from one of the other Dakar riders on the same event. Thanks statpadr for the PM'd offer of a replacement.
But I'll be looking for a shift lever for an LC4/640 Adventure this morning. I hope Woody's has that, and we can swing by for it, then meet the guys in Plevna.

Day one of the rally is complete, 7 drowned bikes, many crashes, everyone is in one piece and we're off for day two
![]() To say that things are slick and deep is an understatement ![]() There is going to be some "entertaining" reports come out of this.

Charley Boorman will be in NB next month
Check this out, you guys should see if you can hook up with Charley for a day when he gets out your way. TCAT would be a good story for them.

This thread is about to become a media blitz of water crossing photos and videos. 60 people, 60 cameras and 48 notable water crossings.......
I know I wasn't the only person neck deep in water during the rally . Yes, neck deep ![]() I'd like to hear about Shipewrecks, Tarzans and Bogmans (I mean boatmans) 4 hour 2 km tour of duty down the wrong trail ![]() Heard the wee Honda blew it's engine this morning?
