whats the shortest 950/990?
so may be an odd question,, or not... I have a short inseam.. really thinking of going to a big twin.. Been on the dirt since I was 8 now in my early 40's with disc issues down at my L4-5 due to a bad auto wreck that may sideline my offroading.. I still want to ride.. thinking the big KTM may be the ticket.. I did have a 625 sxc for a year or so and I could touch ground one side at a time,,, I really do not like screwing with the geometry of the suspension to change seat height.. I have heard some are lower.. figured enough on here would know.. and I did a search but too much came up and nothing dealing with my issue..
Thanks,, Steve

Once I get the ok to ride I'm heading to matto's to see if there is one to test ride. I start PT this week for my disc,, have PT for 4 weeks but in all honesty it's doing better than I thought it would at this point. I'm working full time already, tho don't know if covering a few hundred mikes a day in my work van is a good idea. The more I drive that the more I need my Valium/vicodin mix. Actually last night left off the vicodin and had a shot instead and feel better this morning than I have had in a while.
Maybe I'll slip over to matto's while the wifes at work....

I have the 33.9" seat height LC8 (2006 950Adv non-S ) and it's as tall as my 29" inseam would want. I had no issues on my 04 SXC (stiffer rear spring, so taller than stock) but it's 130 pounds lighter than a 950 which is a huge difference when you're compensating for a short inseam. |

Ive been here a while,, but that sxc was my first KTM since my 98 300exc.. I think I'm going to do some horse trading soon to try to get through this summer and buy something nice during the fall or winter.. Prices always shoot up when the weather gets nice around here.. might just do a 640 for the summer to get me through till I find the right big adv.. or SE.. I like the naked bikes.. everytime I go to the dealer the duke seems to speak to me... I just dont think I'd keep my license if I got one of those.. but I CAN touch the ground..

Well,, after seeing the SMR converted to a SE in the show off thread.. that may be the way to go.. the seat seams a bit more dirtbike like.. or narrow? I got to go see one in person.. I have some things to do,, mainly PT and some odds and ends to see if I can free up capitol to fund this without a complete bike selloff.. Here is the pic of the SMR that got me thinking..

At 5'8", I gave up years ago on being able to flat foot anything other than a trials bike. Personally however I wouldn't want the seat / peg distance any closer on the 990 as it feels kind of close already.
After any decent spell standing on the pegs, when I sit down I feel like I'm sitting in the bike. I use to think the ADV was a tall beast cos I could only just tip toe it. Then I sat on a Super Enduro, had a laugh, and got the salesman to lift me back down.. You really do get use to it. Just my 68 inches worth.

I had mine lowered
I took my bike to James at superplush in san francisco. The bike was lowered 1.5". I would do it again in a heart beat. I'm not an aggressive off road rider. Fire roads are going to be about it for me, especially on this big bitch.
I'm about 5'8" with a 30" inseam. I have the stock seat. I have sidi adv boots and damn near flat footed on the bike now. If I wear my 'harley style' boots completely flat footed due to the taller heal. 100% more confident on and off road. I didn't really like the bike in the city before but now feel much more comfortable. Not nearly as sketched out off road. This process can be reversed if/when you sell. |

Nothing to see here.

5'8" 155 lb weakling
29" inseam no problems. 2004 950 Adventure non S. I also had a 690 I could get two toes down on that. Before that an F800GS. Once you get used to it the height is not a huge issue. Until you have to make an unexpected stop on an off camber spot and pick the wrong foot to throw down....
