Alaska Highway Ferry GPS track out there??
Does anyone out there have a GPS track of the Haines to Bellingham ferry? I wasn't able to keep my Garmin Zumo on for this segment of my trip to the Arctic Ocean and back.
Alternatively, does anyone have a detailed route map of this ferry route so that I can try to create a GPX file from it?? Thanks for any assistance or new ideas!! |

I just took the July 5th Ferry down from Haines. Great trip. I had my Zumo working for a bit but a 4 hr battery means trouble on a 3 day 4 night trip. My spot did Ok but all that steel is a problem if you are below decks at all.
Ferry goes places the cruise ships do not go unless you are on a real small one. Great trip....and we needed a rest bad. I know there are maps with the Ferry route but I do not access right now as I am out of town for a bit. We sailed from Haines via Juneau, Sitka, Petersburg, Wrangel, Ketchikan and finally to Bellingham. Microsoft Street and Strips 2010 will route accurately on the Marine Alaskan Highway though. |

if you Garmin's BaseCamp, it knows about the ferry routes
I used basecamp to define routes for my ride to Alaska. If you create a route from Haines to Prince Rupert, it will route the path along the ferry route.
Here's an example (zoom in to Haines) |

As I am planning the same ferry trip in late July, I was experimenting and directions in Google Maps will in fact route you down the ferry lanes.
