everybody survived the mciver ride... thanks to all and klammer for leading the ride.

1 hour at dove springs practicing desert skills was fun. then we rode up to mciver @ 6800 feet elevation. good mix of terrain,3Rs - rocks, ruts, roots; loose dirt and sand. 8 riders with no excuses had a blast. this trail is very interesting, you guys never been there, you need to try it.

fyyp 990A and fudgy gsa12 rode their big bikes from home with no complain....the trail to the cabin wasn't really for big bikes, but eric and ersin forged along.

i was on the exc and the trails were still challenging for me. that bike is more than i can handle, it doesn't know what slow means.

uploading the pics..... and ride report to follow.

Thanks again for the great ride, guys. The skills are starting to come together finally, like sand and just overall balance/control.

I appreciate the helping hands here and there. Let's do this again soon.

Can't wait to see the pics...

forget that route, tough already on a 640/650.

hope you find more suitable rides for big bikes. most riders here downsized, but we still do big bike rides.

sean, don't know yet what to do with this bike, it surely more than a handful. i was leery riding it that i may break down 30 miles from the truck. it performed well except the battery died after i forgot to turn the fan off.

Follow the trail to the end of the canyon about 4 miles. It's really worth the trip, a nice trail with 2 water crossings, beautiful Joshua trees and some really nice camp sites you can check out for future use. When you reach the end of the canyon trail, look up to your right and see the historic So Cal MC downhill.

I rode the So Cal MC District 37 races in the early 1970s and we came straight down from the McIvers cabin trail to the desert floor in one shot, about 2000' elevation change
Now it's all locked up in wilderness land

dennis, we didn't have time to explore. the ride we did was longer than what i was planning due to the difficulty level.

thanks and hopefully there will be a next time.

My GPS showed 23.6 miles from where we parked off Dove Springs to McIver Cabin, so I figure that's 47.2 miles round trip.

I have tracks if anyone wants them:

1) Mojave McDonalds to parking area @Dove Springs (31.9 miles)
2) Pkg area to McIver Cabin (23.6 miles)

"Big bike-friendly," of course. ;)
