Corner Country Queens Birthday

Day one and two
Tryhard and myself set off from White Cliffs NSW about 3pm and headed for Tibooburra. Just as the light was fading we arrived to find the Tibooburra Festival in full swing. After finding accommodation in the pub, having a good feed, chatting to the locals and tourists, it was nice to have a nice warm bed for the first night.
Not for long though. It was a bit after 6am when we left Tibooburra for Cameron’s Corner in the dark, thinking it would be light soon.

The sun was fully up when we were half way there. The roos were very friendly, as they were the whole trip, any time of day.
The tourist things had to be done at the Corner.

After topping up with fuel and a bacon and egg roll we headed north to Innamincka.

Had a top lunch at Innamincka and they even had boutique beers on tap, topped up fuel again, got in trouble for riding too fast in the car park…sorry, angry posh lady…and took off for more sight seeing.

Dig Tree stockade

We rode south and camped near Santos Station off the side of the road just on sunset. A nice little fire with only the sound of the wind and 16yo port. Ahhhh the serenity.

Peak hour was about 6am the next morning when one 4wd went past.

Day three
We broke camp and were on the road a bit after 7am. The extra fuel was tranfered to the main tanks the night before so the bike handled a lot better. Still in QLD for a while travelling south until we crossed the border and fence.

I got a flat a bit later. Must have had a big hit on the rear wheel but nothing stood out that I took notice of.

The tube has seen better days

Me changing a tube, had lots of practice lately. Who makes an ultra HD tube for a 17” rim. I mean Ultra.

Must be me checking if I had shat myself after the back end of the bike tried to overtake me, keeping it upright and running off the road just before stopping

There are worse placed to get a flat

Fuel started to be an issue so we went into Tibooburra to top up and found this

Luckily TJ’s was 800m down the road. They couldn’t be more helpful. Locals were telling us about tracks and the lady there rang around Wanaaring and Hungerford for fuel and a couple of stations for track conditions. The route was planned from there to go to Wannaaring up to Hamilton gate on the dog fence, Hungerford overnight and easy run to White Cliffs the next day.

127km from the last flat I had another. Thew another tube in and got going again.
10 km after another.

Ok, something’s up here. I checked the rim and tyre and found a tear inside of the tyre that was chewing threw the tubes.

Tryhard was so bored with my flats he even offered to help.

Half way along to Wanaaring a sign to White Cliffs made our decision.
The rear tyre was out of balance noticeably and had split

20km down the road there was a nasty noise that sounded like I had stripped the front sprocket. Everything looked ok but a bearing noise was coming from the gearbox at idle, first and 5th. With the split in the tyre and dodgy box it was a slow trip to White Cliffs.
Stoped for a break a bit later and the output shaft seal had let go.
No need to lube the chain

We covered the Km expected which was about 1300km in two days and a couple of hours. As usual, the route planned on the gps doesn’t happen on the ground and given time constraints exploring isn’t possible.
Points of note were
· We only passed about a dozen passenger vehicle the whole trip
· Most of the tourist we came across had flown themselves in with light aircraft
· Cameron Corner had 46,000 vehicles through, the year before the flood and now has only 7,000 for the year
· It hasn’t rained out there for 3 months
· The roads are like freeways, let her rip
· Fuel quality is poor, affecting consumption rates and bike performance
· Definitely an experience for the adventure rider not to miss
· One of my best rides
We didn't see any bikes on the whole trip.

Very jealous, even WITH the tyre & tube troubles

You are certainly teasing us.
I am planning a trip there later in the year so great to see photos and footage.
I am just trying to deal with the sand issue!
