Hi Doug,
After meeting you in Ankara, we have started the Stans together with my wife Seden and Ramo on his XTZ 660 Tenere earlier than your trip. The route was Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and return. Remember the final drive problem on the way, I guess, this is just occurred due to speedy descent up from 4200 meters high 0 degree Celsius Kizil Art Pass border post at Pamir Mountains down to 40 degree Celsius Osh Fergana Valley in only half a day. By the way, take care of this lovely dog at Kyrgyz side of border post which you arrive after 20 km of driving on a ugly muddy road on the no-man zone after Tajik border post on the Kizil Art pass ?![]() This guy got very much excited when we approach the Kyrgyz post, followed us all the way when we carry out passport and custom formalities, attempted to bite my wife first and then succeeded to bite me finally . It costs me an anti-rabies vaccination at Bishkek and immediate return from Tashkent due to lack of identical vaccination in Tashkent. My bike is now resting in Tashkent, expecting me to take him back to home .Finally, if you drive long way on the Afghan border, simply ignore the awful questions of custom officers about the narcotic trafficking at the Kyrgyz post. Enjoy your trip, Tankut

Yeah, it's almost impossible to find the hotter spot in the engine where you can stick the stator. Maybe inside of the crankcase. Would be almost as easy to replace it.

This area sure has a lot of megalomaniac leaders. Those photos remind me of North Korea's capital.
Hey! check this out! The Kazak megalomaniac leader is going to be the hero of a fairy tale.........Now that is one-upsmanship at its finest. http://news.yahoo.com/authoritarian-...150421284.html |

Doug - something I'm curious about - on some of the visa & papers, it mentions paying in US dollars - are you able to spend dollars most of the time over there, or do you always have to "buy" some of the local currency? You must come home with pockets full of interesting coins.

To Patrick46
English become an international language due to its simplicity in use, and prevalence (as a result of British colonisation) in world. Also English got its popularity in USSR because of cold war period as a preparation to 3rd world war (guess with who)
, and Rock-n-Roll period (as a result of sex, drugs... :-) ) . According to Internet data currently on our planet is 1 500 000 000 English speaking people. As a result - English is most used language. That is why signs at all the exhibits, generally, has English translation only...

I would suggest Chinese or Spanish (with close variants) are the greatest spoken "first' languages. But include 'first and second' languages I am sure English is way, way, way ahead of all others.
