Wow I am having a hard time grasping the concept of the passenger pegs on the swingarm of the older XLR's. And people say the pig hasn't changed. Leaps and bounds on pegs alone.

I am a Harley mechanic and test ride every bike I work on 4 miles, any where from 6 to 12 times a day and in that 4 miles I will get cut off at least once if not twice. Since I sold my Street Glide and started riding the XR and Ruckus I have yet to be cut off, tailgated, or lane changed into even once. You'd think it would happen at least on the Ruckus since it takes so long to get up to speed, but people just wait until they can pass and go on by. Most of the time I even get a nod or a wave as they pass.

Bailing wire , My favorite. Don't leave home without it , along with Duct tape.

I'm a n00b here, just thought I'd introduce myself, and share a couple of pics of my XR 500 Re, I bought this brand new when I was was young and stupid, I'm no so young anymore.



This old girl is probably going to outlast me ...



The XR still keeps up with these youngsters ...

Even in daily Los Angeles riding, people seem pretty aware; though I do my best to be seen. I always ride in front of the pack and am a bit of a hooligan as Jeremy would call it.

Only problem I had up until now was today. Guy pulled quick out of a parking lot into my lane; I was accelerating and a few lengths back so I just gave him a close pass to let him know I'm there. Then he comes flying up as 20+ over my speed and passes me partially on the center lane and half in mine. What the F?This got me heated. Caught up and words exchanged. I won't say what happened next... I'll just say my temper has not fully matured so I make mistakes once in a while.

What counts is I'm safe, and the guy didn't catch up.

Been there done that back in my 20's... The only tough choice was whether to leave the helmet on for protection or to take it off to use a club...

Glad you're okay. How's the bike?

BTW, a buddy of mine who's an inmate here, and owns an XRL, T-boned a cow the other day on a rural road. He was flying on his BMW GS. He's going to be okay, but his GS was totaled as was the cow. However, he did spend 3 days in ICU with internal injuries, so it was a very close call.
